Not Like the Movies

For a while now Katy Perry has won over my heart over and over again. The first time I heard of her was with her song ‘I Kissed a Girl.’ Fortunately I actually have not heard that song (but I still sing it…), just the buzz about it. The first song of hers that I was able to listen to was ‘Hot and Cold’ and that song made me want to move my body, so I was pretty much in love with her after that. Some things that kind of get under my skin about her are; She has been a little skanky lately I guess since her song that made her famous was risqué she felt she needed to continue that act. When using her looks she does not have to try too hard to be liked.  Her new CD Teenage Dream is one of my favorite albums to listen to on my iPod. One song that I think is funny but it is one that I think she felt she needed to write to keep up her ‘dirty girl’ feel is Peacock. It is one of the most interesting songs I have heard in a LONG time. Who writes a song dedicated to the private areas of a man? Oh yea, that would be Katy Perry. She has a unique way of saying things she wants in innocent ways. Who would have thought she was talking about an actual peacock? I did, until I heard the first line that says, “I wanna see your peacock…” For this song to be on the album titles ‘Teenage Dream’ I was a little worried that there might actually be teenage girls out there who want to see these things. Or for them to be wanting things like what are talked about in the song ‘Teenage Dream,’ if there is a girl in high school who thinks her boyfriend loves her, and she thinks she needs to “go all the way” with him. She has another thing coming. I am sorry to say girls, he does not love you. He might slightly, but if you give it up, the will give you up. Coming from a guy, I am here to tell you that in high school guys are wanting a relationship because he wants some action. And the desperate girls are willing to give it to them. So don’t listen to Katy Perry when it comes to this, PLEASE! Our world has no hope with Ke$ha singing about eating people and Katy Perry singing about sleeping with the whole football team before leaving your teenage years.
Ok, not all of Katy Perry songs are psycho like the few I have mentioned. There are a few songs that I can’t stop listening to. The first is firework (see Glozell Video at end of post) I like the beat, and the first time I heard it I made fun of it a little bit. But then I actually listened to ALL the lyrics, and it has potential. It has nearly the same message as Lady GaGa’s new song ‘Born This Way.’ Another song I really like is, ‘E.T.’ but the reasons I like this song don’t pertain to what I am talking to so we will move on. ‘Hummingbird Heartbeat’ caught me because of the beat of course, but I am a person who has not had an actual LOVE in my life yet. I have had many crushes and a few girlfriends, but no one I have fallen in love with yet. A hummingbird heartbeat is foreign to me, so I like listening about it.
The song I have saved to talk about last is ‘Pearl.’ The reason I love this song is very personal, but I want to talk to the many girls out there for this one. In the city I live in I have seen girl after girl fall into the trap of a worthless guy, and then she ends up throwing away her endless possibilities to keep him.  According to Katy Perry you are a pearl, I have always looked at girls as a precious gem, but a pearl works too. You have the option to do whatever you want after high school. You can go and enjoy your life! The sad thing is I have seen way too many girls throw their lives away because their high school boyfriend said “I love you.” I am about to tell you something I have told many girls before, he does not love you. You have the chance to go out and meet other people you have an option to see the way a guy will give his own life to save yours. There are men out there who will treat you like royalty. You may think that your high school boyfriend treats you that way, but I want you to try something. See how he treats his sisters, mother, and other random women. A man who will respect you is a man who will show respect to women he does not know in places like the mall, or grocery store. He will show the proper respect to his mother and sisters. That is the guy you want, not a guy who will hide your potential to become anything in the world. Don’t let him blind you with the make believe that men are not that way, because there are MANY guys out there who will respect you. There is a guy I know who has been married to his wife for nearly 5 years, and still to this day he has not said anything cruel or degrading to her. He always speaks to her as if it will be the last time he will see her. He still respects her in everything, even her mistakes. That is the kind of guy I want every girl to have. So take this song from Katy Perry’s collection and adapt it to your life. As Katy says in her song, “She use to set the sails of a thousand ships, she was a force to be reckoned with… but he keeps her in the dark.” Do not settle for the first guy who says “I Love You.” Live up to your full capability.

Here is Glozell with the humor behind the music:

I'm Not Alright

Most people in the world have at least one BEST friend. Someone who is there no matter what you do. Someone who will pick you up when you have fallen, then stick their leg out to trip you again. We all have a perspective of what a good friend is. And I would like to vocalize mine, since many of the people in my social group call me a friend, in my definition they are not. Through all my school years I have usually had some really good friends, people who I would give my life for. But as I have gotten older those BEST friends began to disappear, they went to college in other states, or they got married. I have been able to deal with these things and move on. My problem is with the flakey people who say things like, “Oh, when you’re not doing anything just call me and we can hang out.” – Yea right. Thanks for being a backup friend for when I am lonely. Or the people who say “Call me when you’re in town!” – I am sorry to say, I am not calling you. Do you think that if we get together for lunch every once in a while will make you a good friend? If you really are a good friend then why was the last time I talked to you, over 3 months ago? I understand that text messaging is how most people keep in touch, but then why is my unlimited texting going to waste? A real friend is someone who cares enough about you to think of you more often than once every couple months.
I am sorry to have written this out of annoyance, but this world is filled with a lot of superficial people who care about you to your face, but they hardly care when you are away. Dealing with a lot of changes since I have moved back home after living in California, people must have forgotten about me while I was away because I do not hear from anyone anymore. Even those people I would have died for in high school don’t keep in touch. So here is a note to all those people out there who think they are being a good friend by saying “Call me when you need someone to talk to.” The better friend would call to check on that person rather than waiting for a call. This world needs more people who show their affection to the ones they love. It is a really sad day when you think that the singers you listen to are better friends than the ones you associate with.

I Am Number Four's Fan

I am they type of person who enjoys movies like X-Men, Fantastic 4, Ghost Rider, Spiderman (although I really hate the movies, they fit in the category). Even when the television show ‘Heroes’ was popular, I was a HUGE fan. I was planning on seeing another type of these movies when I saw ‘I Am Number Four.’ I was pleased to see that it had the elements that I loved in the Marvel movies with a nice twist of unexpected science fiction. It was just like the movies I love, but totally different at the same time. Overall I really liked this movie; the romance in the story is not awkward or too thick. It is totally opposite of ‘Twilight’ when it comes to the romance. The action and mystery was just perfect. I like my movies with a good mystery. Luckily I was not with my friend who always guesses the ending. That always kills me when he is right. The climax was good, but I didn’t want that to be it. I want to know more about the storyline! I hate cliff hanger endings, and this has left me craving more. I hope there will be another movie, because if not… i will go crazy. I have found myself strangely obsessed with this movie. I bought some of the music I liked from it, and when I get a chance I want to read the book. Hopefully there is another book, then I can get to the actual ending before another movie comes out. I don’t want to wonder what happens next, I do that every time I watch ‘Push.’

The storyline seemed believable, and I thank the actors for helping with this. Dianna Agron is the love interest, which she did a great job with this character. I even fell in love with her too, which can be hard to do after you star in ‘Glee’ but she won me back. The interaction between her and Alex Pettyfer’s character is the real way a high school romance plays out. Speaking of Alex Pettyfer, he plays the main character, so I won’t give things away; let’s just say he played his part well. Sadly, I could correlate with his character (in the high school department). I was the type of person who was not picked on too much, but I did try and stand up for the kids people made fun of. The main point is I have a great respect for him. He seems a little full of himself in most of his photographs; luckily I can look past that and respect him as an actor. He has become a role model for me, and because I gained a liking for him I am looking forward to seeing his performance in ‘Beastly.’
My recommendation to all you fans out there. Go see this movie. I am planning on seeing it again, and I am planning on buying the movie when it comes out on DVD. Here is the trailer so you all can have some sort of an idea of what it is about:

The Siren That Draws in Un-expecting Mortals

When I first began thinking about the blog I was going to write about Taylor Swift, I wanted to be honest, which would have sounded rude. But as I listened to her music today, I was thinking, “She is really not bad at all. Maybe just a little conceded, but not terrible.” The problem is I was thinking these things while I was listening to her music. She must have been casting a spell on me or something; I thought I was thinking straight but… only she knows what she was doing to me. So I will just say what I was going to in the first place. Taylor, you are a little selfish and you like to sing with the same tune. There it has been said.
Let us start with the music. I have to say, the music is nice. It serenades me while I am working, entertains me when I am bored, and sometimes she sings me to sleep. But there is a tune that sounds like the same song with different lyrics. I know each artist has their own individual sound, and they model new songs after past popular songs. But I think Taylor Swift has a template of some sort that she begins her new songs after. Maybe it has something to do with a sirens song, except she does not lead ships to their death. She leads us, the common person, to buy her new CD which we will listen to constantly until she can win every music related award out there. This seems more plausible than the idea I had of her using witchcraft in her songs to steal our souls. I just want to be surprised by something really new.
I think that ‘Speak Now’ is the best CD to date. I thoroughly enjoy the song ‘Mean’ because it is a total revenge song, and I like revenge. When I was listening to this song I was getting worried that if she ever see’s this post, she will probably write a song about me too… and it will be an unearthly song. Death metal sounding with screams of terror in the background and the title will be called, ‘Kill the internet blogger!’ at least it will be a new sound.
I don’t really feel like this about her. I only wanted to give her some words of criticism to try and help her grab a larger audience. For example let us use Ke$ha, she is not that interesting, she probably really can’t sing that well, but her songs are catchy. You can’t help but listen to her get drunk and then eat helpless young men. (See post titled: How Morbid Can We Get?) Alright T Girl, please do this and I will love you more than I already do. And please don’t write a song about me. I am here to help you, not make fun of you. I do have to say, the song ‘Haunted’ is different. Take that direction again.
Now, before we are finished I want to address the issue of how she views herself. Taylor Swift is a cute girl, but her problem is that she knows she has good looks. And she tries to use her looks to catch the audience. I am sorry, but when you do this you make me cringe. Just be a normal individual instead of the person who has the look on her face that says, “I am the hottest thing here. Oh wait, there is Jennifer Aniston. Must throw her death looks while I try to look hotter than her.” You know? Your songs reflect on what kind of person you are. This is the profile I have come up with for Taylor Swift. She is a girl who has a lot of regrets. She is ticked that all her former boyfriends left her for an actress, or he trashed her in some way. Or she let him go and now she wants to ruin his wedding, although she does not rudely barge in a white veil occasion. She will do it so she can get the guy she wants. I think she needs to listen to ‘Born This Way’ by Lady GaGa. Then she can give up her insecurities, and be happy being without all those superficial guys. Let’s face it she is WAY out of their league, ALL of the guys she has dated are beneath her. (Now I see why she thinks highly of herself, it is comments like that that do it to her)
Taylor Swift is still a great singer, and she has accomplished a lot in her short lifetime. Unfortunately she has had to face a lot of crap from critics and even other singers. She needs to know that she has at least one fan out there that will stand up for her anytime. I am looking forward to see her blossom into her full potential.

Congratulations, You Are a Douchebag

I just need to make a complaint about something that I saw today. I was at In ‘N Out Burger with two friends, and I happened to see something happen that really gets under my skin. We had just come into the restaurant and as I was called up to give my order to the woman at the register, a man who had just grabbed his food leaned over to her and said, “Thanks for screwing up my order.” Then he walked away. At first I thought he had said something a little more friendly, or in a sarcastic tone. But the poor woman just looked at him and I could tell she was a taken back, and a little offended. I watched the guy walk away, as he did so he glanced back and glared at the girl. At this point I was just about to give my order, I was overly friendly to the girl to try and make up for this guy’s rudeness.
Later, after I had gone home, I was still annoyed with this guy. Who in this world thinks they can treat another human being in that way? I had a similar experience at my work when I worked in a sandwich store. A woman was in a hurry so she was demanding her sandwich right then. I was not finished, so I was trying to hurry. After I had gotten the sandwich made I went to put it in a container so it would stay fresh, but she said to me, “No, I want it wrapped.” I just looked at her strangely, the only thing I could think of was wrapping it in saran wrap, so I went over and began cutting a piece for her sandwich. She then said, “Excuse me! I don’t want it wrapped like that! I want it like a New York sandwich!” Well excuse me for being an idiot. We live in the West, we do thing different here. So I did it the way she wanted, as I gave her the sandwich I apologized for it taking some time to make it. Her reply was, “It is not my fault you did not have things ready. Thank you.” She then left. I was really annoyed at how I was treated like I was beneath her. When I saw that guy this evening treat this girl that way I wanted to smash in his headlights on his car so he would be put out even more. We are all human, we deal with your mistakes, so don’t belittle us when we make one too.
Patience is something our world is losing quickly. Manners are something that people are not teaching their children. Being a good example to kids and demonstrating patience, even if your day seems to be going so poorly, might influence someone for the better. To this guy and all those other people out in the world who are rude to others for dumb reasons. Also to the people who act as if they are better than the average man. Congratulations, you’re a douchebag.

A Real Artist

Lady GaGa has done it again, adding another addition to her masterpiece collection of songs. I was reading reviews on iTunes today and I saw that a few people think she is imitating Madonna. I do see similarities in this song with things Madonna has done in that past, but if we look at any other genre of music you will see similarities in them too. People can be REALLY SMART sometimes. The first time I heard this song was when she performed it at the Grammy’s. I was not too impressed with it then (look at my Grammy Post) but after making the purchase of the song, I have come to love it. I probably look like I am having a seizure because it just makes me want to move my body, and I don’t dance. When I dance I look like furniture moving around in an earthquake. I can hardly wait until the entire CD is out, only 3 months until we can hear the entire album “Born This Way.” Then I will play the music so loud, I might cause an earthquake… or avalanche.
Although this song has a good beat that you want to dance to, it has some good lyrics too. The parts I want to point out are as follows: “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen. Whether you’re broke or evergreen, you’re black, white, beige, chola decent; you’re Lebanese, your orient. Weather life’s disabilities left you outcast, bullied or teased. Rejoice and love yourself today ‘cause baby you were born this way.” There is a reference to gays like it is a race (although sometimes we treat them like a race). I thought that was funny. But the entire point of this song is for someone to become comfortable in your own skin. There are too many people pretending to be someone they are not (Ke$ha). I was watching the ‘60 Minutes’ interview with Lady GaGa before the Grammy’s and she is a lot more normal than people want to believe. She talked a little bit about her high school years and how many of the girls in her school would make fun of her (I can relate). Some people would say, “Well, that is not hard to do, she is easy to make fun of.” But I want you to think about it, she is comfortable with who she is now. And now that she can see that, she wants her fans to be as comfortable as she is, just being themselves.
Another thing I found cool about the interview is she explained the reasoning to wearing artwork as clothing. She knows the story behind the idea of each article of clothing she wears. Being a photographer I understand when she says, “Everything has a story.” Most of the photo shoots I do with people have to have a storyline otherwise the pictures don’t come out right. Not like I am writing stories with every photo shoot I do, but you need a storyline or theme. All that stems from an idea, I am sure it is the same way with all the things she wears. (And she wears these things to grab attention). If I wore things to grab people’s attention, I would not have been as creative as her. I would have worn something like trash bags full of garbage (think Zoolander). So you can see that she is a far more creative than me; she grabs the audience’s attention and they remain focused on her waiting to see what she will do next. I was absent from society for a while so I did not know who she was at all for a long time. I did see her picture everywhere, and I thought she was kind of creepy. I mean look at the cover of “The Fame Monster” she is crying oil or tar. But now that I have seen interviews with her, I understand her a little bit more, I believe she is brilliant! I think people need to stop criticizing her so much. If you would take the time to understand her, you will stop making her the butt end of your jokes. I understand she is an easy person to make fun of, but stop criticizing so harshly. (I know I am The Bitter Critic, but at least know something before you criticize) Lady GaGa is a marvelous artist (in music, sculpture, photography, and dance. She is multi-talented). Although she is not my role model, she is an inspiration for me to give up all my insecurities and to stop caring about what other people think. So when you listen to “Born This Way” think of it as an inspirational speech with a good beat. Just become comfortable with who you are.
I guess I am not the only person who loves Lady GaGa, my good friend Glozell does too. Enjoy this video, I had a good laugh.

How Morbid Can We Get?

The first time I saw the song “Cannibal” by Ke$ha on iTunes, I laughed a little bit to myself. I was intrigued so I listened to the preview. Although the song has a good beat, the lyrics are disturbing. I think the way Ke$ha got the idea for this song was by picking a random word out of a hat, then made a song about it. “Oh good, I pulled ‘Cannibal’ out of the hat. I was nervous I would have pulled ‘Psychopath Killer.’ That would have been a difficult topic.” Who in their right mind writes an entire song dedicated to people who like to eat other people? She must have been on some sort of medication or drugs at the time the idea came into her head for this one.
The lyrics go as follows: “Whenever you tell me I’m pretty, that’s when the hunger really hits me. Your little heart goes pitter patter. I want you liver on a platter. Use your finger to stir my tea, and for desert I’ll suck your teeth…” These are a few lines from the beginning, and I get a visual of every line. An image of some guys liver on a silver platter while she stirs her tea with his finger and a plate full of teeth ready to be sucked. I mean, this is abnormal. Then she makes a reference to Jeffery Dahmer. I don’t think she really thought that one through. Although he was kind of a psycho, think about the relatives of the victims of Jeffery Dahmer. I would be a little ticked if some girl was using my cousin’s death as a casual reference.
Ke$ha, you need to see a therapist. Maybe write a song about rehab, and how you will no longer have an addiction to alcohol. You might need it because if you are drinking half as much as you sing that you are, you will have kidney problems a lot sooner than you expect. Being drunk really is not that cool, teaching teens to drink as often as they can, will get people killed when they drive drunk. Teens think they are invincible and when you tell them it is cool to get drunk and eat other human beings, they tend do what you say. Thank you for your poor influence for the next generation. I will be staying away from girls with alcohol running through their blood. Ke$ha may have brainwashed them to feast on man flesh.

The Grammy’s… Kind of Disappointing

I’ll start with the “most talked about” artist, Lady GaGa. She is full of interesting outfits and ideas. But she accomplishes her goals each time she goes onto the stage. She entered into the Grammy’s as a fetus. I understand that was part of her performance. I am sorry to say, it was anti-climactic. I was guessing she was going to jump out of the placenta dressed as a large baby, or she was going to wear child corpses as a belt. I was relieved to see that she did not have any dead babies on her waist. But the buildup was a lot more entertaining than the actual “Birth.” I hope the song catches the attention of her fans, because the performance was average. I was still entertained by the performance and the song, but I was expecting more from the infamous GaGa.

Although Lady GaGa seemed to be the attention grabber, I think we need to talk about a few of the people who were stunning, and a few others who were… not as fantastic. Selena Gomez was gorgeous and ALONE! A woman who looks like that needed a man by her side. Too bad I was out of commission. I was a little surprised to see her alone. That is all right, JB is not good enough for her. Also, we had Katy Perry who brought her Grandma. This was a cool kind of act on her part, maybe she did it to grab attention for herself, but I think it was a kind thing to do for her grandmother. Jennifer Hudson looked very good. (After her Oprah appearance, I was curious as how she was going to present herself) Sadly, not everyone was as good as Jennifer… Miley Cyrus looks depressed, she seems like she is going to take a “Lindsay Lohan” path in her life. Perhaps she can take a page out of Selena’s book and be a little classier, and less trashy. I am sorry to say, I was nervous about Rihanna in her dress. I was waiting for her to fall out. It looked like she had gotten her Christmas tree garland and made a dress out of it. I do not understand what kind of statement she was trying to make… the only statement I got from her was, “Help Me!”

I wanted to see some other people there too. Maybe they were there, and they were not interviewed. I stopped watching after the first hour. So I am saying things blindly, but where was Carrie Underwood? Or Kelly Clarkson, Brooke Faser, Norah Jones, Michael Bublè, Britt Nicole, Skillet, Fireflight, Anberlin, Shiny Toy Guns, The Bravery, Josh Groban, Matthew West, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, Tao Cruz, and so many more. What about the artists who are very talented but don’t get into the public’s eye because they are “religious” artists. In my opinion these are the talented musicians because they can still make good music without dirty lyrics, and filling our heads with crap that is spread through the radio.

Overall, the whole thing had way too much buildup. Why is it that our society needs these kinds of things to look forward to? Why do we really care about who wore what? Although, it is fun to make fun of the strange things people do to get attention. We center our lives on these idols. These mortal beings that have the money to do the things we dream of. That is why we watch them religiously, and listen to their music ever second of every day, and know every detail about them. It is a sad day when a person looks to someone like Lady GaGa for inspiration and guidance rather than God.
